Twins in Truefits March 9, 2010 A. Lewis (Idaho USA) Lock offs are a major factor in this seat for us! We went through a few different convertible seats with our twins, because either their construction didn't work or the seat didn't work with our leather seats! We do not have latch in our suburban, so we have to use the seat belt...one seat we could install correctly but it would slowly recline and tilt. Another seat we also got in correctly, but it's construction made it difficult to use (couldn't get to the belt release buckles, when rear facing). This seat is great and highly recommended among car seat enthusiasts. It last until 35 lbs rear facing, which is safest for your child AS LONG AS POSSIBLE, even up to age 3 if they still fit in the seat. It also has one of the tallest shells to accomade extended rear facing, as well as foreward facing, which goes to 65 pounds. The seat will easily last you a long time for most children, and fit until they are ready for a booster seat. Children are 500 times more safe in a rear facing seat, even past 1 year old and 20 pounds! Check out Joel's Journey (google that)...and thats' only one reason why. Also, this seat does not expire for 7 years, which is a year longer than many...and it's also VERY IMPORTANT you check car seat expiration dates...search you tube and you will see why.
Amazing carseat, tall but fits March 7, 2010 T. A. Olsen (Hawaii) I love love love this carseat! It is my favorite one outta 5. It seems very comfortable. It is very easy to wash, and I love how it clips onto the carseat! It is a bit big but fit in our '87 Mercedes and all the other vehicles we've had it in: no problem in the Ford extended cab, or the Lexus, or the Suburban, or the Highlander. I did have to put a rolled up towel under the base, but that is no problem. It is a wonderfull carseat!
Could not install March 6, 2010 K. Hasselbrack (Maine) I bought this carseat for my 13 month old son after using the Graco infant carseat. I was impressed by the 4-star ease of use rating from the NHTSA, the 35 pound rear-facing limit, and the ability to use it until 65 pounds. It's apparent that the NHTSA did not try to install this seat into a vehicle using a seat belt. Both my husband and I were unable to install this seat rear-facing into my 2002 Explorer. The locks on the seat do not line up with the path of the seat belt. Whenever I locked the seat belt into place, I could not tighten the belt enough. Since I can't safely install it rear-facing, I'm returning it and plan to look for something else, which is disappointing.
Great Carseat March 3, 2010 Joyful Mom Our infant was getting too tall for his infant seat, so we started shopping around for a safe alternative that he could use for many years to come. Our friends recommended the Britax, but when we tried it out at Babies R' Us - the crotch strap was already too short (our baby was not even 1 year old yet at the time). We plan to buy another seat, when baby number 2 comes along (that is if they are still selling the seat). Then we found The First Years True Fit Convertible carseat. We could not have found a better carseat for a good price that fit our child then and now! Everyday Positives: * Easy adjustable harness that does not require seat removal or re-threading of the straps (easy to adjust due to extra bulkiness of warmer clothes on some days and less bulky clothes the next day). * Some side impact protection, although not as much as others on the market now. * Handy cup holder that our toddler can easily reach to get his own sippy cup (this snaps off easily when you want it to detach). * Great latch system that works in many different types of cars! Travel Positives: * Not too heavy when you have to move it from one destination to another. We move ours at least twice a year from our car to a passenger van (threading the shoulder harness) to the airport gate-check, and finally to a truck. * Soft and comfortable fabric that is well-padded for long car rides (even without with infant insert).
Sturdy, comfortable and easy to use March 2, 2010 Rochelle L. Farra (Cumming, GA) I bought this when my son was nearing 22lbs at 1 year old and growing out of his infant seat. I wanted to get something that had good ratings and something he wouldn't grow out of in the near future. It arrived quickly, packaged well and I loved loved how soft and padded it was. Also, I loved that I could take off ALL padding and wash EVERYTHING on it without needing to re-thread any straps etc. The material is very soft and plush. Rear facing Pros: 1. Easy to install using latch or seatbelt 2. My son was very comfortable in it Rear facing Cons: 1. HAD to be put in middle seat because it's reclined position takes up a lot of space and still touched our front seats in an Acura MDX SUV. 2. Tightening the shoulder straps was near impossible because the tightner is at the front of the seat, thus wedged between the car seat and baby seat. Forward Facing Pros: 1. Can fit in either center seat or side seat. 2. Very comfortable for my son 3. Easily adjust the shoulder straps 4. Easy to install with latch system Forward Facing Cons: 1. More difficult to install using seat belt because you have to thread the belt under the seat cushion, which becomes frustrating and annoying as it always falls down or obscures your vision unless you almost completely take it off. I love the safety ratings this got and the price was great. Everything is easy to adjust. It is very sturdy, but it is also very large and heavy at 24lbs. We have baby #2 on the way, so I'm concerned that this seat and the infant seat are not going to fit side by side in our vehicles. Also, I would not recommend traveling with it. It is just a little too large for any/all car seat travel bags that I researched out there. Our only option would have been to check it in a garbage bag or take it on the flight (which we wanted to do anyway). We had to strap it to a portable dolly to get it through the airport because there was no way we could carry it around. It is approved on flights, though very hard to carry down the aisle because of it's size and weight. Also, you can not use the seats belt locking mechanism in an airline seat, which isn't a big deal, because the airline buckle gets in the way. Just buckling it normal works fine. Again, it is very big and wide. It would not fit rear-facing in an airline seat and really takes up the whole seat when it's forward facing. Ultimately, if you don't plan on traveling with it, or moving it from one car to another, this is a great, stable, safe and comfortable seat for your child.
