Wouldn't buy again September 4, 2010 A. Cunningham (Raleigh, NC) I have been using this car seat for a year and a half now. I believe it to be perfectly safe, which is my favorite thing about it. However, it is next to impossible to take the cloth shell off for cleaning, which is by far my least favorite thing about it. Today, as I was struggling outside to take the cover off so I could wash it, my neighbor (who also has small children) was outside, and I asked her if their car seat linings were this difficult to remove, and she replied, "No, not at all. We just unthread the straps, and it comes right off". With the Alpha Omega Elite, you first have to remove the plastic base (like you would do to turn it into a booster seat), then unthread the straps, then, using a screwdriver (as per the manual!), you have to pry the plastic holes the straps go through from the body of the car seat. It is a total pain, not to mention incredibly time consuming. In conclusion, while this seems to be a safe car seat, why purchase one that is so difficult to clean (I mean, we are dealing with small children here--there's lots of spilling/leaking going on!). There are plenty of other car seats on the market that are much easier to work with. Also, it is quite large. We use it in our car and mini-van, and when the car seat was rear-facing, the front seat it was behind had to be in the furthest position to the front. Not what my 6'2" husband is looking for! I wouldn't buy this again, knowing what I know now.
wish I got this car seat first instead of infant carrier August 24, 2010 jenn This car seat is really nice. When I pulled it out of the box I was immediately jealous- it looks so comfortable! I love that the shoulder straps are so east to adjust, I don't even have to take the car seat out of my car to adjust it as my little one gets older. He is 7 months right now and about 20 pounds, but he is fairly long so we had to bump up from infant carrier to a convertible seat sooner that we expected, the shoulder straps on the infant carrier were starting to be too tight on him at about 6 months. The only "issue" I had was that even when fully reclined on the base in the rear facing position, I still had to stuff a rolled up blanket underneath to recline it even further, his head would droop forward when he fell asleep while driving without it reclined that extra bit. But I drive a sedan with bucket seats, so I guess this is to be expected with any convertible car seat. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.
Awesome seat, Now own 3 of this brand August 23, 2010 BnEsMommy I read the reviews on this seat before making our THIRD purchase. I don't understand some of them. They say this isn't the seat found at BRU, but I don't know what they are talking about unless they are confused between the child convertible seat and booster seat. Those are two different styles and Amazon sells both. So to start, we purchased this exact model, different pattern, before our daughter was born in 2008 and used it for our nieces and loved it. At the time it had only been used forward facing and we had no installation difficulties. Then we purchased another seat, same model, different pattern, in 2009 after she was born and outgrew her child seat. This way we'd have one for our two vehicles. It took us FOREVER to figure out how to install it properly in our small CRV rear-facing. I really wish I'd have read consumer reports first. Then I would have known to REMOVE THE BASE FIRST. The base is not necessary and it makes it a ton easier to install in smaller vehicles when you take it off. So after three tries and a couple hours later we had it installed. My daughter loves the seat, is comfortable and the seat can grow with her. Fastforward, we now have a son and he quickly outgrew his infant seat. For our sakes we purchased this seat again (from Amazon), Triton pattern, and it took us all of 5 minutes to install now that we are seasoned pros and knew to take the base off for rear-facing installation. We then turned our daughter forward facing at the same time, we also removed the base from her seat and it made it a better fit in our CRV. So, the moral of the story, read the reviews, pick up a few hints for installation, and install a great quality, safe car seat for your child(ren). We've purchased 3 of this model and if need be we would do it again in a heartbeat. Sidenote: The Triton color is brighter than the picture depicts, and I LOVE it!
Used August 17, 2010 Unhappy Customer 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Item was suppose to be new, but was missing the manual, it was completely dusty, and worsted of all the item was used.
great car seat August 5, 2010 jcmom we have used this car seat for 2 years now. It is very sturdy and easy to use. I drive small car (Carolla) so it is a tight fit when used as a rear facing seat, but has been fantastic as a forward facing seat.It seems to be well padded and comfortable for my son. the cup holder is bad not a big deal.
